Morton Golf is making a significant financial investment in rehabbing the worst bunkers on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks in order to improve the playing conditions on the golf course with our bunker renovation project. We are addressing complaints that the bunkers do not have enough sand and have too much standing water. The new bunkers will have drainage and brand new sand. This is good news for everyone as we continue to improve the playing conditions at the facility.
We are hoping to have the bunker renovation project completed in November with minimal impact to golfers. During the renovation of a bunker, the MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks will utilize one of our extra par three holes that are available on the on the Academy Holes.
We started the renovation project the week of September 23rd, 2013, and I have some great pictures to share that illustrate the huge difference in renovating just a single bunker makes to the look of the golf course.
Stacy Baker, MacKenzie Golf Course Superintendent, spearheaded the bunker renovation on hole #3 of the MacKenzie Golf Course with his talented staff. The project took three days to complete and as you can tell from the before and after pictures, the final results will make a huge difference to golfers as they enjoy their next round on the golf course!
The Before Picture: As you can see, there wasn’t enough sand in the bunker and the standing water was a definite issue with our golfers.
Sand Removed, Drainage Exposed: The new drainage will fix the standing water problem that has been plaguing many of these problem bunkers
Half Filled: There is a LOT of new sand going into each of these bunkers!
Finished Product: Let’s play golf!
