100th California State Fair Golf Championship Returns to Haggin Oaks

100 years of California golf history continues as elite amateur golfers head to Haggin Oaks August 31 – September 2, 2024 to play the Alister MacKenzie designed MacKenzie Golf Course.

The top amateur golfers in the west will compete in a 54-hole stroke play competition on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks Labor Day weekend.

This annual championship has a storied history, attracting some of the finest amateur and professional golfers from across the state. The tournament is an exceptional opportunity for rising stars and established players to showcase their skills on one of Sacramento’s most iconic courses.

Who:
The California State Fair Golf Championship has served as a launching pad for many notable golfers who have gone on to achieve great success on the PGA Tour. Past participants include:

  • Cameron Champ: Known for his incredible driving distance and precision, Champ competed in the California State Fair Golf Championship before becoming a PGA Tour winner and one of the most exciting young talents in golf today.
  • Max Homa: A fan favorite and two-time PGA Tour winner, Homa participated in the California State Fair Golf Championship early in his career. He is now recognized for his engaging personality and strong performances on the PGA Tour.
  • Nick Watney: A five-time PGA Tour winner and former California State Fair Golf Champion, Watney has competed in numerous major championships and represented the United States in international competitions.
  • Kevin Sutherland: Known for his steady play and consistency, Sutherland is another former participant who has enjoyed a successful career on both the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, including a win at the 2002 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
  • Ken Venturi: Before becoming a U.S. Open champion and a renowned golf broadcaster, Venturi competed in the California State Fair Golf Championship, gaining valuable experience that contributed to his legendary career.

  • Sunday, September 1st: Second Round
  • Monday, September 2nd: Final Round and Awards Ceremony

Come out and watch future PGA Tour Players before they become stars on the Tour! Spectators are welcome to come out to the course and it is free to watch the tournament. Golf carts will also be available for spectator rental.

Tee times run from 7 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday and from 7 am – 9 am for Monday’s final round. The leaders will tee off at 9 am on Monday.
