SCOUT is a Washington, DC-based brand known for fashionable, functional, and affordable bags that help women navigate their busy lives.
Twenty years ago, celebrity stylist and former Vogue editor Deb Waterman Johns was in the market for large tote bags. Nothing she could find was large enough, sturdy enough, or affordable enough to fit the multitude of things her family needed. So she and her husband did the only reasonable thing to do in that situation—they made them themselves.
SCOUT first launched in 2004 with the release of their iconic ‘Deano’ bag. The versatile, open-top tote was ideal for carrying pretty much everything and an instant hit. The company’s name comes from a character in To Kill a Mockingbird, who the couple previously named their dachshund after. A strong name with a touch of eccentricity…it was a perfect fit.
Today, SCOUT is made by a nearly all-female team. Their designers have a deep, first-hand understanding of what their customers need and want and design their products accordingly. They are fun, smart, talented, and committed to making women’s lives better.
