Cody Paladino is the champion in the 89th California State Fair Men’s Championship that was held this weekend on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks.
Paladino shot 66 on Monday (6 under par) and found himself in a playoff against defending State Fair champion Brandon Hagy and Joel Stalter. Cody Paladino is a graduate from Baylor University and it seems fitting that this Baylor “Bear” went up against two Cal “Bears” in the final showdown on a Monday that brought some crazy weather including thunderstorms to the Sacramento region.
The three-man playoff exhibited some clutch golf among the competitors. Our defending champion, Hagy, was eliminated first from the playoff round when he made a par on the second playoff hole. Unfortunately, that wasn’t good enough for these golfers! Stalter was outstanding, but it wasn’t quite enough to bring home the win. He birdied all three playoff holes. However, Paladino took it up a notch when he birdied the first two playoff holes and then eagled the third playoff hole with an amazing putt to capture the win.
