Welcome to First Time Fridays! A new summer series brought to you by Kathryn Newton, Golf Digest and Morton Golf. This series will be premiering every Friday right here on our Haggin Oaks blog and will give you the inside scoop on how to look and feel like a golfer for all you beginners out there. Golf is an intimidating sport so we want to make it easier for you to feel comfortable from the get-go.
This week’s video is focused on How to set up a Round of Golf. Kathryn talks about how your first step should be to call the pro shop and set up a tee time. There are also other options to set up a tee time such as going online (at Haggin Oaks, that’s where you will always find our best rate) and also just walking into the Pro Shop for a same day tee time.
You will then need to decide if you want to play 9 or 18 holes. If you end up only wanting to play 6 holes or 13 holes, that’s perfectly fine. You be the judge and play for fun!
Since courses hold tournaments and special events, there may be days that are harder to get a tee time, so playing in the late afternoon is usually always a great time to go out and play. For beginners, this time of day is great since not many people are playing and you can take your time – even take a few practice shots at each tee box.
Kathryn also mentions that you can ride in a cart or walk the course. Either are great options. If you are in a time crunch, renting a cart can make the round go by a lot faster. But walking is a perfect way to get exercise in and focus on your next shot. At Haggin Oaks, you can rent both carts and push carts at a minimal fee. We also allow walking at any time of the day.
