Jones’n for a Cure Returns to Haggin Oaks for its 7th Year

This annual charity golf tournament has raised over $290,000 since its inception.

This past Monday, the annual Jones’n for a Cure tournament was held at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. The tournament boasted a full field of golfers who played an 18-hole scramble. More guests came later in the day for their luncheon. Despite the hot temperatures, it was a perfect day to play golf and raise money for a good cause.

What is Jones’n for a Cure?

Jones’n for a Cure is a charity organization founded in memory of Rick Jones, who passed away from brain cancer. Rick was first diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2013. He spent the time he had left ticking things off his bucket list, playing golf with friends and family, and fighting the disease as hard as he could. Rick was one-of-a-kind; always willing to share a joke, always ready to hang out with friends, and never willing to give up the hope. Unfortunately, Rick passed away in 2017 after fighting the disease for 4 years.

Following Rick’s passing, his wife Christy and several of his close friends came together to honor his legacy. They wanted to help find a cure and support other people dealing with this awful disease. To them, a golf tournament seemed like a great way to turn something tragic into something good. The first Jones’n for a Cure tournament was held in 2018 at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. As of 2023, the organization has raised over $290,000 for the National Brain Tumor Society in support of their mission.

The 7th Annual Jones’n for a Cure Tournament

The tournament is always a fun one and this year was no different. Several holes had other games for the golfers to play to earn raffle tickets. These games included ladder ball, cornhole, closest to the pin challenges, and a hole-in-one challenge. On the 17th tee box, golfers got to use a ball launcher to rocket their tee shots toward the hole. After the tournament, golfers and guests gathered in the Haggin Oaks Pavilion for lunch and a closing ceremony. It was a fun time from start to finish!

With another great tournament in the books, we know Monday was another great day that honored Rick’s memory. We are proud to host such a great event from a wonderful organization. We look forward to their next tournament next year!
