California Women’s FootGolf Club along with Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento will be hosting the inaugural Kicking for Charity Event on November 10, 2013. The featured charity will be American River Parkway Foundation. A portion of registration fees and all raffle proceeds will be donated to the foundation.
Local players (men, women, and families) are invited to join enthusiasts from throughout California for FootGolf play where athletes use soccer balls on a traditional golf course with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. The Haggin Oaks FootGolf Course will entail 18 holes built within the front nine of the Arcade Creek GC at Haggin Oaks- designed to be able to play both traditional golf and FootGolf simultaneously.
FootGolf uses golf’s basic model including tee boxes, greens, bunkers, hazards and 18 holes of play. Scorecards display par scores for each hole as in regular golf. The sport is governed by the Federation for International FootGolf and has grown primarily internationally. The event at Haggin Oaks will be the first event of its kind in California.
“We’re excited to collaborate with Haggin Oaks and American River Parkway Foundation to bring this new sport to the public,” explained Ashley Johnson and Lilli Bewley, Co-founders at California Women’s Footgolf Club. “It’s a perfect fit for our mission: to promote the sport of FootGolf by creating long-lasting friendships and celebrating women in sports. We love FootGolf because of the community togetherness it fosters and the accessibility for all skill levels: men, women, and children. We know others will be hooked as well.”
“FootGolf here at Haggin Oaks has exceeded our expectations since it’s arrival in mid July,” says Karl Van Dessel, FootGolf Manager at Haggin Oaks. “We have seen a steady increase in participation and now we are very excited to be the home for ‘California Women’s FootGolf Club’ which if I am not mistaken is a first here in California. We are delighted to be involved in the upcoming ‘Kicking for Charity’ which will provide all the players with first hand experience of FootGolf and a fun filled afternoon while raising funds for American River Parkway Foundation. I look forward very much to seeing everyone out playing and meeting new players and welcoming some of our regular players.”
