On Thursday, after playing golf at Haggin Oaks, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Sierra Nevada Chapter had an awards banquet for many hard-working and deserving superintendents.
Morton Golf’s own Muhammad Ali, who manages Bartley Cavanaugh, Bing Maloney, and William Land Park Golf course, won Turfgrass Manager of the Year.
The Turfgrass Manager of the Year award is presented to a superintendent who maintains their facility to a standard that reflects consistent, high-quality playing conditions while displaying exceptional agronomic and management skills. The resourcefulness of this individual is an essential consideration in the selection criteria and may include factors such as budget, site restrictions, rounds of golf, staff size, etc.
Muhammad has done so much for the association in recent years that he has almost been awarded all of them.
Muhammad Ali’s Accomplishments:
- 2020 Presidents Grassroots award- this is selected by the president of the chapter
- 2021 Turfgrass Manager of the Year for a Public Course- This is selected by member nominations and then Board of Director approvals.
- 2023 Distinguished Member of the Year- our board of directors selected this due to Muhammed’s work with First Tee and for being our national representative. He is working very hard to better the game of golf locally and nationally.
We are very thankful for Muhammad’s hard work for Morton Golf and the city courses, which is well deserved. When you see Muhammad around, congratulate him on his the Turfgrass Manager of The Year Award.
