Longtime Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop salesmen Nick Wallace won the 2024 American FootGolf League National Championship!
Nick has now qualified for the 2024 Jansen Cup as part of the USA Team to be held in Scotland!
The tournament was played at Fox Hills in Plymouth, MI, and Royal Scot in Lansing, MI between June 19-23. This was the final stop for the 2024 AFGL Major League Tour.
The first round was at Fox Hills GC in Plymouth on a beautiful, well manicured course with challenging FootGolf holes on the fringe near the golf greens. In 90 degree heat with high humidity, Nick shot -10 to lead the men’s +46 division by 2 strokes.
The team then relocated to Royal Scot GC in Lansing, MI which was on a longer track with greens on the right and left with freshly mowed rough. The heat and smothering humidity continued on day 2 but Nick continued to prevail by shooting -7 and holding on to his 2 shot lead.
Day three was a little cooler, but the course played longer with the wet conditions and the morning dew. Nick told himself to try and catch the players in the open division to push him mentally and try not to settle with the overnight lead. That pushed him to stay focused and shoot a -8 for the final day!
After all was said and done, Nick led the tournament from wire to wire and shot -25 overall to win the men’s +46 division by 4 strokes!
This is Nick’s First National Championship after coming in second twice in the men’s open division. With the win he qualified for Team USA vs Team UK in Scotland for the Jansen Cup!
Congratulations also, to the Men’s winner Zak Matteoli(-31) a former Sacramento native, and Memphis FootGolf Club for winning the match play team event final vs Angel City with local players like Arturo Barragan, Vinney Matteoli, and Zak Matteolli leading the charge!
FootGolf, as the name suggests, is a combination of golf and soccer in which players kick a soccer ball into 21-inch cups. The Arcade Creek Foot GC at Haggin Oaks was one of the first in the nation.
