High-end putters are becoming increasingly popular among golfers. Putters have transitioned from solely basic golf clubs, to meticulously engineered and manufactured pieces of equipment.
Nonetheless, the meticulous customization and resources available to PGA Tour players, have long eluded the average consumer. Ping has taken it upon themselves to change this. The Ping Putting Lab Design (PLD) is bringing the custom-fitting experience and putter-design process previously only available to their PGA Tour players to every Ping Customer.
The Ping PLD Program consists of three main categories: PLD Custom, PLD Limited, and PLD Milled. PLD Custom is the most customized experience and features a Ping Master Fitter experience to produce a one-of-a-kind unique putter.
Ping is utilizing their large assembly of CNC milling machines to construct precision-milled versions of its renowned putter designs. Ping has a set list of tour-proven heads available. However, Ping claims if another style catches your eye, that “they’ll do their best to make it happen”. By individually milling each putter, the material can also be selected from carbon steel and stainless steel options.
Likewise, the finish and final “look” of the putter can be customized. This includes engraving and paint filling options as well. By working through the Ping fitting procedure, the putter can be engineered with tungsten weights that perfectly match the stroke and tempo of the golfer.
The depth of the face milling can be customized to find the balance between softness and response. Ultimately, the PLD Custom program enables nearly limitless customization and possibilities to produce the perfect putter for you.
The next pillar of the Ping PLD Program is the PLD Limited series. This series is focused more on collector putters. According to Ping, this line will focus on “items that celebrate a PING putter that changed the game, or limited quantities of tour player models built and customized to the pro’s exact specifications”.
These putters are advertised more as collector items than daily use putters. However, the skilled manufacturing methods utilized for PLD Limited series are the same as PLD Custom putters. These are some of the highest quality putters available.
Lastly, the PLD Milled series brings the precision-milled Ping putting experience to the broadest audience. Every putter is precision milled from forged steel. For the average golfer looking to improve their putter, this is the perfect series. The options for the PLD Milled series are as follows:
