Sacramento Golf Tips: How to Make a Close Bunker Shot

Most golfers struggle with bunker shots when the pin is close to the bunker.

Recovering from landing in a bunker is already a tough situation to be in. When the pin is cut close to the bunker, it can be even harder. But if you follow the right steps in this situation, you can get your ball out of the sand and set yourself up for an easy putt.

The most important thing is to get the ball to go straight up and land without rolling. For this shot, Mike uses his 58° Titleist Vokey wedge and opens the face to make sure his wedge travels through the sand.

Next, you’re going to aim left of where you want the ball to go. This is important because it will offset the change in direction with the face being open.

Finally, make sure to enter the sand about an inch behind the ball and take a full swing. If you follow these steps, your ball should go right up and land without rolling too far.
