Haggin Oaks Director of Golf Mike Woods shares how to curve the golf ball.
Picture this: you’re playing a par 4 and you’ve just hit a wonderful tee shot straight down the fairway. All you need to do is get it on the green and you have a good shot for birdie. You find your ball and oh no—there’s a tree in the middle of the fairway, right between the green and your ball. Do you try a low punch shot? Do you try to clear the tree? Or do you think you can curve the ball around the tree? Let’s go over how to curve your ball around an obstacle.
Normally, you aim your shot right toward the target. The first step is to curve your ball is to aim your body in the direction you want the ball to curve.
Second, open your club face so it’s aiming at the target.
Finally, swing your club along the line of your feet. If you’ve done everything right, your ball will curve in the direction you want and then back towards the pin.
Curving your ball can be very tricky to get the hang of, but it’s a great skill to add to your repertoire. The perfect way to practice this skill is with Toptracer on the Haggin Oaks Driving Range. You’ll be able to see that curve on the monitor so you’ll be confident when you bring this skill out on the course.
