Haggin Oaks Director of Golf Mike Woods shares how to play a low punch shot in a minute.
There’s nothing that can derail a great round of golf like a dreaded shank into the trees. You were so close to making par and now it’s going to take you an extra 2 or 3 swings to get onto the green. Often times the best recovery shot in this situation is a low punch shot, but they can be tricky to pull off. Luckily, our own Mike Woods recently shared how to pull off a low punch shot!
The first step is to choke down on your club. The change in grip will give you better control over your swing.
Second, move forward and play the ball further back in your stance, by your right foot. This cuts down the loft in your club to get your ball to shoot out low.
Finally, finish low instead of following through your swing like normal. Keep all of these in mind and you’ll have a shot that flies far and low, perfect for getting back onto the green!
