Dustin Johnson also wears Adidas Golf apparel and footwear en route to seventh career PGA Tour victory
After postponing the start of the 2013 PGA Tour season for three days due to high winds topping 40 MPH in Kapaulua, TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Dustin Johnson kicked off the year by seizing the season-opener Hyundai Tournament of Champions with a convincing four-stroke victory. Playing the new R1 driver and RocketBladez Tour irons for the first time, Dustin Johnson overpowered the Plantation Course and cruised to his seventh career win on the PGA Tour.
One of the longest hitters on Tour, Dustin Johnson used his length relentlessly to attack the shorter par-4s and 5s with the R1, a driver that features a visually striking crown graphic and which is TaylorMade’s most adjustable driver ever. To optimize his launch in Maui, DJ’s 10.0 lofted driver included a neutral face angle and an 8-gram shot shape weight in the toe and a 2-gram in the heel. Click here to find #YOUR1.
Also in DJ’s bag were TaylorMade’s new RocketBladez Tour irons, the first distance-oriented iron to be played on Tour. RocketBladez irons feature a “Speed Pocket” to promote faster ball speed and a higher launch angle for longer, high-flying, quick-stopping shots. One of the tournament’s memorable shots was DJ’s 243-yard approach on the 18th hole on Sunday with a RocketBladez Tour 5-iron to six feet.
The victory extends DJ’s streak of years with at least one PGA Tour victory to six. It was also the third time he has won a weather-shortened, 54-hole event (2009 AT&T Pebble Beach & 2011 Barclays).
