Top Amateur Golfers To Compete in 90th California State Fair at Haggin Oaks

The best amateur players in the U.S. will tee it up in the 90th Annual California State Fair Amateur Golf Championship at Alister MacKenzie Golf Course, Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, August 30, 31 & September 1, 2014.

California State Fair ChampionshipThe field includes nationally ranked juniors, college and mid-amateur golfers. Scheduled to compete in the 54-hole stroke play tournament are:

  • 2014 Pacific Coast Amateur Champion – Corey Pereira, Cameron Park, CA
  • 2013 California Mid-Amateur Champion – Matt Cohn, San Francisco, CA
  • 2014 Alameda Commuters Champion – Jonathan De Los Reyes, Sacramento, CA
  • 2013 Oregon Public Links Champion – Alistair Docherty
  • 2013 Oregon State Amateur Champion – Hans Reimers, Lake Oswego, OR
  • 2013 & 2014 Sacramento City Champion – Brian Knoll, Cameron Park, CA
  • 2014 Oregon Amateur Champion – Connor Kumpula, Albany, OR
  • 2014 Oregon State Amateur Champion – Thomas Lim, Moorpark, CA
  • 2014 Western Junior Championship – K.K. Limbhasut, Loma Linda, CA
  • 2013 Los Angeles City Champion – Jeremy Sanders, Chatsworth, CA

The top players from Stanford, California, UCLA, Oregon, Sacramento State, UC Davis, St. Marys, USF, Long Beach State, Chico State, U. of Pacific, Sonoma St, Santa Clara, San Jose State, Cal Poly and University Nevada, Reno will be competing as well. Top players from Mexico, Norway, France and Canada attending various colleges in the United States are represented as well.

The top finishers in the strong field will earn National SPWAR Points, awarded only in eight other events west of the Mississippi.

This California State Fair Men’s Amateur Golf Championship is the premier amateur event in the western United States and among the top amateur events in the country. Past winners include PGA greats Ken Venturi, George Archer, Allen Geiberger and Kevin Sutherland. Current touring PGA professionals Nick Watney, Spencer Levin, Matt Bettencourt and many others are past participants as well.

Tee times on Saturday and Sunday run from 7 AM to 1:28 PM on the 7,041-yard, par 72 Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks. The final 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, September 1, will begin at 7:00 AM with the leaders starting around 9:15 AM.
