Annual Patriot Golf Day raised a record-breaking $6.4M for Folds of Honor scholarship program in 2015
This Labor Day weekend, the golf industry will look to top the nearly $6.5 million in donations it raised in 2015 through Patriot Golf Day, the leading fundraiser for non-profit, Folds of Honor. All money raised during this critical campaign will fund educational scholarships for the family members of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled in combat while serving in the United States armed forces.
“Golfers across the country have been so instrumental in helping military family members continue their education,” said Major Dan Rooney, founder and CEO of Folds of Honor. “Every year we are overwhelmed by their generosity and support for our cause. We could not advance our mission without them.”
Open to golfers across the country in 41 PGA sections and in all 50 states, Patriot Golf Day will take place from September 4-7. Throughout the weekend, golfers who play at participating courses will be asked to add one extra dollar to their green fees to support Folds of Honor’s scholarship program, which has benefited more than 10,000 military family members since its inception in 2007.
In 2015, Patriot Golf Day raised more money for Folds of Honor scholarships than any previous year, with $6,445,000 in donations coming from nearly 1,600 courses nationwide. The Patriot Golf Day campaign is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association.
“Patriot Golf Day continues to grow in its success and we are so encouraged by the continuous support of the golf industry,” Rooney said. “This Labor Day weekend, we look forward to golfers around the nation participating in Patriot Golf Day and supporting the men and women who serve our country.”
More than 5,500 courses are registered for the upcoming 2016 Patriot Golf Day nationwide. If you are interested in joining the mission to empower the lives of deserving military families with educational opportunities, you can find participating courses and make donations at PatriotGolfDay.com as well as FoldsofHonor.org. PGA Professionals who host an event and submit funds to the Folds of Honor Foundation will receive 2 MSR credits.
