Episode 3 of the PING Podcast has Been Released & Covers the Importance of Club Fittings
The PING Proving Grounds Podcast hosted by Shane Bacon & Marty Jertson has released their third episode and this week they focused on the importance of having fitted clubs. They cover all perspectives of a fitting from how a tour player approaches a fitting to how a casual golfer proves a fitting. They talk about how often you should get fitted, what you should be looking for when you get fitted, the mindset you should have going into your fitting, and most importantly who should get fitted. The answer is simple, every golfer needs to get fitted. Shane & Marty debunk the myth that only the best golfers should receive fittings and they claim that every golfer would see benefits from a fitting.
How Often Should You Be Fitted?
Shane & Marty share that they get fitted once or twice a year and that they recommend this for any advanced golfers. As for the casual golfer, they also recommend being fitted once or twice a year. One’s swing can change drastically in a year and the clubs that were previously custom tailored for you may no longer fit your swing. Because a golfer is always changing it is important they to constantly change their clubs as well.
What to Look for While Getting Fitted
Current technology allows for a plethora of stats to be tracked and it can be overwhelming. Shane & Marty share their tips on which stats are the most important ones to be watching. One stat that Marty & Shane agree is king, is ball speed. You want to select clubs that get you a high ball speed as it simply makes the ball travel longer. Another stat they said to pay attention to is your dispersion. Meaning how consistent your shots are and to look at the average shot rather than your best shot. Many stats are important but these are crucial and often are overlooked. And remember, just because you can measure a stat, doesn’t mean you should.
Keeping an Open Mind
open mind rather than trying to make a specific type of club work. When Entering your club fitting it is important to keep an open mind as the club fitters paired with current technology will likely find better clubs for you than you could for yourself. Shane & Marty share stories of how people have walked in wanting a specific set of clubs then they would leave there fitting with something completely different. You will try a lot of clubs at your fitting but keep an open mind and trust that your fitter knows what is best for you.
Everyone Should be Fitted
Many golfers believe they are not good enough to be fitted for clubs but Shane & Marty debunk this myth by claiming every golfer can see benefits from a fitting. PING fitting technology is able to find the right size clubs for 95% of golfers simply by measuring their size. Even if a golfer’s swing is not consistent, having the right size clubs will improve their game tremendously.
