The 102nd iteration of the Sacramento City Men’s Championship amateur golf tournament occurred from June 10-11. This year’s contest was hosted at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on the Alister Makenzie Course. The tournament was open to all male amateur golfers with a current WHS (World Handicap System) Index of 5.0 or less and there was a maximum of 108 golfers. The tournament consisted of 36 holes, 18 holes each day. The pairings for day 2 were organized by performance on day one, with the highest scorers from day one having the latest tee times. The tournament was able to fill up as 108 men competed to win the title from last year’s defending Champion Reese Sato. The final 2 groups showed their competitive spirit as they played back & forth the entire day. The winner was ultimately decided by Matthew Sutherland after he chipped it in on Hole # 18 for an eagle. This eagle gave him a substantial lead that clinched this year’s winning title. His chip-in was witnessed by several fans along with his mom & dad and Grandpa & Grandma cheering him on.  Mathew shot 11 under for a score of 133 to be this year’s WINNER. Matthew topped off his round with an Eagle & a 3-shot win.

The name “Matthew Sutherland” will now be engraved on the perpetual trophy for everyone to gaze upon. We look forward to seeing Matthew Sutherland in many more tournaments as he continues his golf career. Matthew, Congratulations on your WIN at this year’s Sacramento City Men’s Championship!
